Papua New Guinea (PNG) produces significant quantities of high-quality Arabica coffee, largely from smallholder farmers. Over 85% of PNG's coffee is produced by small-scale farmers, making it a crucial source of income and a significant export crop, though less prominent than cocoa. Rich volcanic soils and high elevations provide excellent growing conditions. Efforts to improve the industry focus on capacity building, establishing value chain partnerships, providing agro-services, and revitalizing the traditional shaded, organic farming methods still practiced by many smallholders.
